A red alert siren was sounded this evening (Thursday) in the Ashqelon Beach and Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Councils and IDF forces began sweeping the area. The IDF announced that no rockets exploded within Israeli territory. One woman was treated for shock in Sderot.

This evening’s Red Alert siren comes following the massive riots that broke out earlier today throughout the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem in response to US President Donald Trump’s speech yesterday, during which he recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city.

As reported earlier today by JOL, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called for a new intifada following US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, calling the move "a declaration of war against the Palestinians." In a mass protest rally in Gaza on Thursday morning, Haniyeh said Hamas is already preparing for an intifada against "the occupation and the Zionist enemy."
