Remembering a young soldier who was killed in the 1948 War of Independence

Micha Netzer fought alongside Eliezer Feig in the battle of Tel Arish in April 1948, about two weeks before the establishment of the State of Israel.

They fought together in bloody battles from the North to the South from the establishment of the country to the present. To this day, they recall the difficult, painful and shocking moment when their comrades were struck by enemy fire and killed, a moment that changed their lives forever. In a special Channel 2 News memory project, warriors tell the stories of their comrades who will never return.

Micha Netzer fought alongside Eliezer Feig in Company Bet of the 52nd Battalion of the Givati Brigade before the establishment of the State of Israel. The encounter between them lasted less than a couple of months until the moment they first met until Feig was shot and killed during the War of Independence in the battle of Tel Arish.

“We took positions and started firing from all directions,” 87-year-old Netzer recalled. “He was wounded and evacuated. That was the last time that I saw him.” Two days after he was critically wounded and evacuated to the hospital, Eliezer died of his wounds.
