Watch: Undercover policemen arrest drug smugglers on Egypt-Israel borderThe suspects were caught with 15 kg of hashish, which was given to them by dealers on the Egyptian side.
Two southern-Israeli residents were arrested Wednesday night on the border with Egypt for trying to smuggle drugs into Israel.
The operation was carried out by undercover IDF Police officers, who had conducted stakeouts along the border for several weeks in advance. They spotted two people throwing the drugs over the fence on the Egyptian side, and two others loading them onto a car on the Israeli side.
The two suspects, who were caught with 15 kg of hashish, were brought in for questioning. The vehicle they were using is believed to have been stolen.
"The police's work along the Egyptian border has significantly decreased drug dealing in Israel, and has strengthened the security of Israel's citizens," police stated.
