Today (Monday), the IDF began an unprecedented exercise in the north in preparation for a possible war with Hezbollah. The massive military exercise is being held in memory of former Mossad Director Meir Dagan and is intended to improve the military’s readiness on the northern front.

The exercise, which is taking place 19 years after the previous one, will include tens of thousands of soldiers from dozens of brigades and will last 11 days. The exercise will simulate a scenario where Hezbollah forces manage to infiltrate an Israeli community near the border, escalating the situation to an all-out war in the north.

The drill was designed to practice the triumph over Hezbollah, the destruction of the enemy’s infrastructure and the prevention of continued rocket fire into Israel. The Navy, Air Force and Army will all participate in the drill.

Although the exercise is happening at the time that Iran is increasing its forces on the Syrian border in the fight against ISIS, the IDF stated that it was planned over a year and a half ago. In addition, Lebanon was contacted so as not to escalate tensions.
