IDF reservists find stash of weapons in West Bank
Watch: Israel shoots down Iranian drone, destroys its control vehicle in SyriaThe Israeli military has released the footage of the early Saturday morning operation in which an Iranian drone that entered Israeli territory was shot down. Iran and Syria continue to dismiss the reports about the drone infiltrating Israel’s airspace, claiming that it was collecting intelligence on terrorist groups and remained over Syria the entire time.
While Tehran and Damascus continue to claim that the Iranian done that was downed by Israel early Saturday morning never entered Israeli airspace, the IDF released the footage of the operation. The Israeli military also released the footage of the Israeli attack on the drone’s control vehicle, which was stationed deep in Syria’s territory.
At around 4:30 AM, the drone was downed after it crossed the border into Israel. In response, Israeli fighter jets attacked the airbase from which the drone took off and the drone’s control vehicle. The T4 Airbase, which is located near Palmyra, was shut down due to the damage caused by the airstrike.
Syrian air defense forces targeted an Israeli F-16 fighter jet that was involved in the attack with over 25 anti-aircraft missiles. The pilots of the aircraft ejected from it before the Syrian missiles hit, landing near Mitzpe Adi. One of the pilots was critically injured. At 11:00 AM, the Israeli Air Force retaliated by launching a large-scale attack near Damascus, destroying over 10 Iranian and Syrian targets.
Over the past few hours, Iranian officials have made several threats against Israel in light of the situation. The spokesperson for Iran’s Supreme National Security Council told Al Jazeera that the Syrian response to the Israeli attack was a clear warning to Israel. “The era of Israeli attacks in Syria is over,” he stated.
In addition, the pro-Syrian regime coalition, which includes Iran and Hezbollah, released a statement on Saturday afternoon, describing the airstrikes against the Iranian and Syrian targets as “Israeli terrorism.”
“Every new Zionist attack will be met with a firm response,” the alliance stated, according to Israel News Company. The pro-Assad forces, however, clarified that they “do not believe that the developments will lead to a regional war.”
In the statement, which was published by the Al Mayadeen news network in Lebanon, the coalition also claimed that the drone that was downed by Israel was “being used to collect information on terrorist groups” and that “the enemy’s claims that the drone entered its airspace are lies.”
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the deputy head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps refused to answer questions about the Iranian drone. However, he warned: “Iran is capable of destroying all the American military bases in the region and creating a hell for the Zionist regime.”
