IDF bases, especially those considered to be classified areas, are supposed to be guarded and secure from infiltrations and break-ins. However, a surprise inspection conducted yesterday (Tuesday) by the IDF Operations Division on nine Ground Forces training bases in the Golan Heights and the Galilee painted a grim and worrisome picture concerning the security situation.

At the examined bases that failed the inspection, some of the inspection staff were able to steal weapons such as rifles and machine guns. In other instances, confidential documents were stolen.

The inspection staff successfully infiltrated the following IDF bases: Shraga (the Golani Brigade’s headquarters), Katzbia Camp, Yiftah Camp, Pilon Camp and Keren Camp.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit stated that “the IDF regularly carries out stringent security inspections on all bases. The conclusions of the inspection are under review within the units and as is customary, lessons will be learned accordingly and the procedures will be sharpened. Incidents in which failures are found will be handled in a disciplinary manner.”
