The Joint Arab List MKs are calling for Palestinians to protest against the Muezzin Law, which seeks to ban the use of loudspeakers in places of worship. Last night (Monday), MK Ahmad Tibi said during an interview with the Lebanese news agency Al Mayadeen: “I’m saying to the Palestinians, protest against this law and the one who’s backing it- Netanyahu. The goal is Jerusalem.”

“From here, the Al Mayadeen station, and from all other platforms, I’m restating that there must be insubordination regarding and a protest against this law,” continued Tibi. “No one should obey this law. I’m calling on my entire nation to refuse this law.”

During the interview, Tibi compared the muezzin call to the Shabbat siren in Jerusalem: “We are also disturbed by the siren on Friday and Saturday […] We can’t drive on your Yom Kippur because of you guys but we don’t make a big deal of this.”

As reported by JOL earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu voiced his support for the bill shortly before the Knesset Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved it.
