Could Yair Lapid be on his way to becoming Israel’s next prime minister? After this weekend’s train crisis that was reported by JOL News (JerusalemOnline), a Channel 2 News survey carried out by two Midgam Research Institute members together with iPanel reveals that for the first time, Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid has become Israel’s largest party and even passed the Likud Party led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The results are unheard of for Lapid, who began his political career a mere five years ago. According to the survey, Lapid is currently a serious candidate for becoming Israel’s prime minister in the next elections.

In the Channel 2 News survey, Lapid’s party won 24 mandates in contrast with the Likud Party, which only received 22 mandates instead of the 30 it received during Israel’s past elections. It seems that Likud supporters are moving over to Naftali Bennett’s HaBayit HaYehudi, which gained strength with 14 mandates compared to its previous eight, making it Israel’s third largest party.
