Defense Ministry: Palestinians benefit from Regulation Law more than Israelis

The controversial Regulation Law, which prevents the demolition of about 2,000 illegally built Jewish structures in the West Bank, actually benefits the Palestinians more than Israelis, according to the Israeli Defense Ministry. The law protects tens of thousands of illegally built Palestinian structures from being demolished by the IDF.

The Regulation Law is supposed to provide a legal solution for the Jewish settlements in the West Bank by enabling the state to acquire the Palestinian land on which buildings were illegally built. However, five months after the Knesset passed the law, the Israeli Defense Ministry revealed that it actually benefits the Palestinians more than the Israelis.

Ever since the law was passed by the Knesset, there has been a significant decrease in the number of demolished illegally built Palestinian structures in the West Bank. The law in its current form prevents the demolition of about 2,000 Jewish structures that were illegally built on Palestinian land. However, it also prevents the Israeli authorities and the IDF from demolishing tens of thousands of illegally built Palestinian buildings at the same time.
