Does MK Bezalel Smotrich live in illegal home within West Bank?

Aerial footage shows that the home of MK Bezalel Smotrich (Ha-Bayit Ha-Yehudi), one of the Regulation Law’s sponsors, is built on Palestinian land, which is against Israeli law. Smotrich claims, however, that it was done legally.

Did MK Bezalel Smotrich (Ha-Bayit Ha-Yehudi), a sponsor of the Regulation Law which was meant to regulate buildings located on private Palestinian land, attempt to regulate his home as well? Yesterday evening (Wednesday), Channel 2 News revealed documents and other information indicating that Smotrich does in fact live in an illegal structure that seems to have been built on private Palestinian land.

The neighborhood is Givat Rashi and is located within the Kedumim settlement, where land designated as external to the blue line is located just outside of the settlement. This means that the land is not considered part of the State of Israel. Based on aerial footage, the land looks cultivated and there are suspicions that this could be private Palestinian land. In addition, the homes built on the land beginning in 2004 are illegal as they are situated outside of Kedumim’s outline plan. One of these homes belongs to Smotrich.

“Things were done properly,” stated Smotrich in response. “As I have done until now, in the future I will also do everything in my power in order to defend the settlements and I will continue to develop it as a direct continuation of the Zionist vision.”
