In one room in the Israeli Justice Ministry’s Administrator General and Official Receiver offices in Jerusalem, thousands of gifts that Israeli prime ministers and government ministers received over the years are stored.

Among the rare items inside this intriguing room is a stunning necklace that Sara Netanyahu received during her husband’s first term as prime minister (1996-1999) from Jordanian government officials. Other items include bottles of whiskey and cigars, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received and reported to the Administrator General and Official Receiver. There is also a soccer jersey from the Brazilian national soccer team.

However, not only are the gifts that Netanyahu received kept in this room. For example, a miniature tank that Israel’s first prime minister David Ben-Gurion received in 1949 from a citizen who admired him is also displayed in the room.

According to Israeli law, every gift that a public official receives becomes the property of the state. However, the official can file a request to keep the present that was given to him or her. If the request is denied, the gift must be handed over to the Israeli Justice Ministry’s Administrator General and Official Receiver.
