Channel 2 News learned on Monday evening that an agreement has been reached by the heads of the Haredi political parties in order to advance the Nationality Law, which passed a preliminary Knesset reading a few weeks ago. It was also decided today that a committee led by MK Amir Ohana (Likud) will be formed in order to discuss and advance the legislation of the controversial bill.

The Haredi politicians agreed that they would support the bill as long as declarative clauses that recognize the religious heritage and tradition of the State of Israel are added to the bill. In the past, the Haredi parties have opposed the legislation of Basic Laws due to their concerns over how the Supreme Court judges will interpret them.
