Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Thursday the US is his country's "number one enemy," in response to Washington's recent attempts to change the 2015 nuclear deal.

In a televised speech, Khamenei said Iran will never give up to the American pressure, adding that US President Donald Trump's "foolish remarks" regarding the deal are a sign of "America’s hostility towards the entire Iranian nation."

Last week, the US House of Representatives voted nearly unanimously to impose new sanctions on Iran for its development of ballistic missiles.

The vote came two weeks after US President Donald Trump's decision to decertify the Iranian nuclear deal, as part of Washington's efforts to toughen its policy toward Iran without undermining the agreement.
