After leading a campaign to improve students’ math scores in standardized testing, Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett declared that Judaic Studies are more important than studying mathematics or science.

Bennett stated this yesterday (Monday) at a conference marking 40 years of the TALI Education Fund’s services. He explained that as a hi-tech superpower and a knowledge and innovations exporter, Israel should also be a spiritual superpower that exports spiritual ideas to the whole world.

Bennett’s statement occurred nearly two months after the Israeli Ministerial Committee for Legislation passed a bill that eliminated the core curriculum at ultra-Orthodox educational institutions. The law requires ultra-Orthodox educational institutions to teach English, science and mathematics for a mere 10 hours per week so that they will be eligible for government funding.
