After the UNESCO World Heritage Committee passed a resolution that condemns Israel for what is described as “acts against Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Israel’s envoy to UNESCO Carmel Shama-Hacohen today (Tuesday) and the two decided on a list of demands that will be presented to the organization. The Israeli Foreign Ministry reported that acting Director-General of the Foreign Ministry Yuval Rotem also participated in the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, it was reported that Shama-Hacohen will return to Paris shortly and resume his talks with UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova. In these talks, the Israeli envoy will present demands that were formulated in Jerusalem in order to “rectify the relationship with UNESCO.”

Two weeks ago, as reported on JOL News, a UNESCO World Heritage Committee resolution that condemned Israel for "acts against Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem” was adopted with the support of only 10 countries while 2 opposed, 8 abstained and one country was absent from the vote. “The craziness continues. UNESCO is dancing to the tunes of the Palestinian flute and humiliating itself,” Israel’s representative to the UN Danny Danon stated in response. “The attempts of the Palestinians and UNESCO to deny and twist history in order to remove the Jewish people from their capital city and historical homeland will fail.”
