Israeli finance minister agrees to allocate NIS 150M to northern securityOn Thursday afternoon, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Financial Minister Moshe Kahlon agreed that next year’s budget will include NIS 150 million for securing and fortifying buildings in northern Israel.
The Israeli government has begun the discussions regarding next year’s budget. Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon agreed on Thursday to establish a team that will examine the security establishment’s request for an increase of NIS 4.8 billion over a timespan of three years.
According to Lieberman, the request stems from “the significant security developments” that have impacted Israel’s security situation. The team will eventually present its recommendation about the budget increase to the Security Cabinet. In addition, Kahlon’s ministry has agreed to set aside NIS 150 million in next year’s budget for securing and fortifying buildings in northern Israel.
Earlier this week, Syria accused Israel of attacking a military base of President Bashar al-Assad’s forces. The base that was allegedly targeted is situated in al-Qutayfah, northeast of Damascus.
