Israeli official to Trump administration: If you pressure Netanyahu, he’ll fall

In the wake of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks that Israel does not receive a “blank check” from the US, right-wing Israeli government officials contacted the Trump administration and warned them not to pressure Netanyahu too much regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Meanwhile, Israeli settlers and Likkud officials called to change the Security Cabinet’s decision, which will allow for Palestinian construction in Area C.

US President Donald Trump’s criticism of Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas did not calm Israeli settlers and the right-wing, but rather did the opposite. They believe that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is missing out on an opportunity for change. Samaria Regional Council Mayor Yossi Dagan told Trump administration officials that if they pressure Netanyahu too much, he will fall.

Meanwhile, settlers and sources within the Likud are concerned about the Security Cabinet’s decision to ease economic restrictions on the Palestinians, which includes permission for Palestinian construction within Area C. Currently, the settlers and Likud sources are calling to change the Security Cabinet’s decision and come to an understanding with HaBayit HaYehudi. Israeli Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Tzipi Hotovely stated that she opposes any land transfer to the Palestinians as it resembles the Oslo Accords’ approach.
