Though it is too soon for any actual developments to take shape, both Lapid and Ya'alon could potentially benefit from joining forces.

Yesh Atid chairman MK Yair Lapid met on Thursday with Moshe Ya'alon, Israel's former Defense Minister who resigned in May amid what he termed "a crisis of trust" with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Though it is currently too soon to speculate on a possible political cooperation between Lapid and Ya'alon, seeing as elections are not expected any time soon, both of them could potentially benefit from such a move. In his resignation statement, Ya'alon clearly mentioned his intention to run for public office in the future. Lapid's party, which has done very well in recent polls, is looking to strengthen its appeal among right-wing voters and could be an ideal choice for Ya'alon as a new political home.

Sources close to Lapid said he meets frequently with key figures in Israeli politics and were reluctant to provide further information about the meeting.
