Tourism Minister calls on Israelis not to fly to Turkey
Israeli Defense Minister calls to outlaw 'fifth column' Israeli-Arab MKMinister Lieberman accused MK Ayman Odeh, the leader of the Joint Arab List party, of being a traitor after he verbally attacked a police officer.
In a fiery speech at the Knesset on Monday, Israel's Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman called MK Ayman Odeh, the head of the Israeli-Arab party, a "fifth column", calling to outlaw him and other members of his party.
Lieberman's remarks came a day after Odeh verbally attacked a police officer who refused to allow him to visit a man detained over the weekend during a Gaza solidarity protest in Haifa.
"Odeh not only cursed and screamed at the officer, but he also did not attend the funeral of (former PM) Peres, and on that very week he attended a memorial service for (former PA leader) Arafat," Lieberman said.
He also mentioned past incidents involving other members of the party, such as Basel Ghattas, who was convicted in 2017 of smuggling cell phones to Palestinian prisoners, and Jamal Zahalka, who has said the Israeli flag is "a rag" to him and that he "would rather die than sing the Israeli national anthem." "I suggest we come to our senses and outlaw Ayman Odeh and his friends," Lieberman concluded.
