Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman slammed Knesset members today (Monday) claiming that recently, harsh remarks have been made against IDF commanders and soldiers. “Over the past few weeks and days, we have been witnessing repeated public slander by ministers and Knesset members against IDF commanders, including the IDF Chief of Staff and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories,” Lieberman wrote on his Facebook page.

“Ministers and Knesset members are taking advantage of the fact that those in uniform cannot respond to them and they allow themselves, for narrow political reasons, to incite against IDF commanders,” he added. “With no national responsibility or discretion. IDF commanders follow the directives of the political leadership. Whoever among the ministers and Knesset members cannot handle this and prefers to roll the responsibility downwards by utilizing wild and hurts the IDF, soldiers and commanders.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also addressed the issue. “I beg of you: stop attacking IDF officers. They execute policy and they don’t decide it. It is my request and if there are complaints, contact us: the government, the prime minister and the defense minister.”
