Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman warned on Monday that the threat from Iran is tangible as Tehran continues to increase its presence in Syria and support the Hamas terrorist group in Gaza. “There’s an Iranian attempt to form a chokehold around the State of Israel,” Lieberman said during this week’s Yisrael Beiteinu Knesset faction meeting.

“The last thing I want is to have a third Lebanon war,” he clarified. According to Lieberman, Iran is trying to build bases in Syria and establish missile factories in Lebanon. He also warned that Tehran has become the main contributor to the armed wing of Hamas.

“I can clarify from our side that we are determined to prevent Iran from establishing itself in Syria,” he added. “We know about the sites for building missiles…and we know who are the people involved in manufacturing these missiles. We are also determined to eliminate every terror tunnel.”

Lieberman then stated that the main topic that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be discussing with Russian President Vladimir Putin today is the Iranian threat. Netanyahu and Putin toured the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow before sitting down for their official meeting. At the center, Netanyahu stressed the importance of the mutual fight against “murderous ideologies.”
