After a BDS activist was deported last week, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan decided to establish a team that will operate in order to prevent activists promoting the anti-Israel movement from entering the country. The team will also work to deport activists who are already in Israel. The decision was made during a meeting held by the two ministers yesterday (Sunday).

The team will work to identify the activists currently in Israel and prevent the future entry of similar activists. “Dozens of organizations under different names are working today in order to gather information and use it to promote the boycott and isolation of Israel and harm the country’s citizens,” read the statement issued by both the ministers following the meeting. “The pro-boycott activists also frequently come to the West Bank in order to incite the local residents against the security forces and disrupt their missions.”

“The battle against the anti-Israel organizations starts with those who come to the State of Israel in order to undermine it,” said Deri. “It is our duty to do everything to dissolve the boycott and say out loud and clearly that we will not allow [people] to harm the State of Israel.”

“This is a necessary step in light of the malicious intentions of those de-legitimization activists who strive to spread rumors and distortions of our region’s reality,” stated Erdan.

As reported by JOL last week, a Swiss activist who belongs to a Christian organization associated with BDS was deported from Israel. Upon landing at Ben Gurion Airport, the activist was taken in for questioning and then deported.

The activist, Rita Pia Freya, has visited Israel several times in the past. She is known to the IDF mostly due to her activities at crossing checkpoints in the Jericho area. In the past, she has harassed and recorded IDF soldiers stationed in the region. Freya also sent the information she gathered on the IDF to sources abroad.
