Israeli Arab MKs enraged at report concerning US embassy move

After US President Donald Trump spoke with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and the Jordanian King updating them about his intention to transfer the US Embassy to Jerusalem, angry responses from Israeli Arab politicians quickly rolled in. “Trump is a crazy pyromaniac who is capable of setting the entire region on fire with his madness,” stated Joint Arab List leader Ayman Odeh.

US President Donald Trump’s intention to transfer the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem continues provoking reactions of outrage among Arab officials, including Israeli Arab Knesset members. “Trump is a crazy pyromaniac, who is capable of setting the entire region on fire with his madness,” stated Joint Arab List leader MK Ayman Odeh.

“If there is one thing that the past few days have proved, it’s that the US shouldn’t remain the sponsor for discussions between Israel and the Palestinians,” Odeh added. “If the Israeli government wishes for the world to recognize West Jerusalem as the Israeli capital city, all it needs to do is recognize East Jerusalem as the capital city of Palestine.”

Arab Movement for Change leader MK Ahmad Tibi also criticized Trump’s decision, claiming that it contradicts international law. “It’s inconceivable that President Trump’s campaign promises are becoming a ‘political attack’ that will lead to a mortal blow to the two-state vision,” Tibi said. “The American administration proves once again that they are part of the problem and not part of the solution.”

As reported earlier today by JOL, Trump stated that the US intends to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem, according to Abbas’s office. Abbas warned Trump of the consequences of such a move on the peace process and the region’s stability. In addition, Abbas claimed that he wouldn’t accept a Palestinian state without East Jerusalem as its capital. Senior-level Palestinian officials claimed that Abbas will continue to speak with world leaders to attempt to dissuade Trump.
