Netanyahu: US knows Iran, not Israel, is responsible for Middle East problemsDuring this week’s government meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas’ recent comments about the conflict show that the PA is not interested in peace. He also said that the US has come to realize that Iran, not Israel, is responsible for the problems in the Middle East.
After the UN General Assembly passed a resolution condemning US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his support for Washington’s decision. During Sunday’s government meeting, Netanyahu said that Israel welcomes America’s “strong stand at the UN,” according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Netanyahu also explained his decision to instruct the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry to withdraw from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Netanyahu said that he believes that his decision was appropriate “given this organization’s biased, one-sided and absurd attitude toward” Israel.
He later mentioned Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas and his recent statements regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in light of Trump’s announcement. “He [Abbas] declared that he is quitting the process and, in effect, is not interested in any proposal that the US might submit,” Netanyahu said. “I think that once again it is becoming clear: It is the Palestinians who do not want to resolve this conflict. The US has said something else that is very important: The root of the general conflict in the Middle East does not lie in Israel, but in Iran and in radical Islam and the terrorism that it inspires.”
