About a week and a half after Israel’s 9th President passed away, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today (Sunday) that he intends to rename the Negev Nuclear Research Center in Dimona after Shimon Peres.

During this week’s government meeting that was held today, Netanyahu told the ministers that he is acting in order to commemorate Israel’s 9th President. “He invested countless effort into establishing this center that is important to the security of Israel’s [future] generations,” Netanyahu said. “I think it’s proper and fitting to rename the center after him.”

Last week, JOL reported that Israeli Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz is considering renaming the Ayalon Highway (Highway 20) after Peres.
