Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Israeli military on Saturday evening at a Mimouna celebration in Gan Yavne. “I salute the IDF soldiers who are always protecting us. They are protecting us from those who pretend to speak for human rights as they hold the Nazi flag,” he said, referring to the Palestinian protesters who waved banners bearing swastikas during the second massive protest along the Gaza border.
“They’re talking about human rights but the fact is that they want to trample the state of the Jewish people,” he added. “We will not allow them to do this. We will stand firm. We will protect our country. We will continue to build it with all the tribes of Israel and all the citizens of Israel.”
Mimouna, which marks the end of Passover, has gone from being an event celebrated by Jews of North African descent to an Israeli tradition. Every year, politicians from across the political map attend celebrations held throughout the country.
At a celebration in Gadera last night, Israeli Finance Ministry Moshe Kahlon commented on the Friday border clashes. “Thanks to the IDF soldiers who are protecting us, we can celebrate this evening,” he said. “They are far away from here along the Gaza border and dealing with a cynical, bad and cruel enemy.”
