In response to media reports about the increasingly volatile situation along the Gaza border, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he is leading "a firm and responsible policy," slamming the media and other critics.

Speaking at a government meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu took a swipe at the media, saying journalists and reporters are people who "have never carried any security responsibilities or led security-related decisions even once."

"I suggest they calm down," he added. "I, along with the Defense Minister, the IDF Chief of Staff, the Shin Bet Director and the heads of the security establishment, am leading a firm and responsible policy."

Netanyahu added that Israel will immediately respond when attacked. "Israel holds Hamas responsible for any shooting from Gaza directed at us," he said.
