The Romanian government has approved a memorandum to move its Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the ruling party in Romania said Thursday. The final decision is now up to President Klaus Iohannis.

The issue is expected to be brought up during next week's visit to Israel by Romania's Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă.

"I congratulate the chairman of the Romanian parliament on his press announcement whereby Romania would begin the process of relocating its embassy to Jerusalem," Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely tweeted.

Since the US officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital back in December, Guatemala and Honduras have made similar announcement.
