President Trump plans to file a complaint against former Director ComeySources close to US President Donald Trump claimed that the president will file a complaint against former Director of the FBI James Comey given his testimony that he gave a friend the content of memos about his conversations with Trump. Comey also testified that he asked his friend to give the information to the press.
CNN reported today (Friday) that US President Donald Trump’s lawyer is planning to file a complaint against former Director of the FBI James Comey, a day after his dramatic testimony in the Senate. During his testimony, Comey admitted that he provided information regarding his conversations with Trump to a friend and then asked him to pass that information onto the press.
“My judgment was I needed to get that out into the public square," Comey said during his testimony. “So I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter.”
The friend, later identified as Daniel Richman, Comey’s confidante and a Columbia University professor, was given the information by Comey after Trump tweeted that he may have tapes of his conversations with the fired FBI director.
Comey stood before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday to give testimony regarding his investigation into the Russian interference in the US election and the obstruction of justice claims against Trump regarding his alleged orders to stop the investigation. Under oath, Comey claimed that the White House chose to discredit him “and more importantly the FBI” by claiming the agency was “poorly led.”
"Those were lies, plain and simple,” he continued. “And I'm so sorry that the FBI workforce had to hear them.”
Comey claimed that he was surprised that Trump had terminated his position in the FBI, especially because he first heard of it via the press. He also said that he kept memos of his conversations with Trump as he believed that the president might lie about them in the future and that he might need these memos in order to protect himself. Comey added that he never felt the need to record conversations with other leaders.
