Netanyahu: “Trump is a true friend of the State of Israel”
Lieberman attacks head of Joint List for speaking at Arafat memorial ceremony: “We will ensure that he won’t be an MK”Head of the Israeli-Arab Joint List party Ayman Odeh took part in a memorial ceremony for former PA President Yasser Arafat in Ramallah, sparking outrage from Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who was quick to attack on Facebook: “We will ensure that he will not be a Member of Knesset.”
Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman posted a picture on Facebook today (Thursday) showing head of the Joint List party Ayman Odeh speaking at a memorial ceremony marking 12 years since the death of former Palestinian National Authority President Yasser Arafat and took the opportunity to renew his attack on the Israeli-Arab politician.
“He wasn’t willing to attend Peres’s funeral in Jerusalem, but giving a speech in Ramallah commemorating Arafat – that’s okay with him?” Lieberman wrote in his post. The Israeli Defense Minister went on to promise that he would continue to use all the methods at his disposal to prevent Odeh from serving as a member of Knesset. “We will continue to work to ensure that he will not be a Member of Knesset in Jerusalem but a member of the Palestinian Council in Ramallah at best,” he wrote.
Only a month ago, Lieberman asked Israeli Coalition Chairman David Bitan to pass a binding resolution to boycott the Joint List in the Knesset following the party’s decision not to attend the funeral of Israel’s ninth President Shimon Peres, claiming that the Israeli-Arab MKs had crossed a red line. Odeh responded to Lieberman’s statements, saying: “As we all know, Lieberman’s initiatives to harm the political representation of Israel’s Arab citizens usually backfire on him and only strengthen us. We will continue to operate on all scenes, including the parliamentary one, to promote peace and equality.”
