Despite the harsh criticism aimed at former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon regarding the Israeli State Comptroller’s Protective Edge report, Ya’alon stated this morning (Saturday) that he intends to establish a new political party and run for prime minster in the next election. “I’ve decided to establish a party, a political power, in order to run for the national leadership,” said Ya’alon during a Shabbat cultural event at Tel Aviv’s HaBima theater.

“The internal threats are the most significant today: Corrupt radicalized discourse of hatred, threat to the rule of law, delegitimizing the media, hateful discourse against Arabs, against Haredis and against right and left,” Ya’alon explained in reference to Israel’s internal threats.

Ya’alon also addressed the Protective Edge report’s evidence claiming that ministers who served in Israel’s Security Cabinet during the operation tried to overthrow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and to hurt him and former IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz.

“There is no such thing during exercises, operations or war as not making mistakes,” said Ya’alon in regard to the IDF’s actions during Protective Edge, stating that Israel must always learn from its mistakes.
