US President Trump’s strange tweet
White House Press Secretary responds to investigations and tensions with GermanyOnce again, the White House Press Secretary slammed the “fake news” and declined a response regarding the developments in the investigation of connections between the Trump administration and Russia prior to the election. Regarding the public rift with Germany, the Press Secretary stated that Trump has immense respect for the German Chancellor.
For the first time in two weeks, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer held a press conference last night (Tuesday), in which he summarized US President Donald Trump’s trip overseas. Tensions in the US were high as this was the first press conference since the latest developments within the investigations against the Trump administration. However, Spicer began by praising Trump’s trip and noted the president’s visit to Israel, which he stated was unprecedented in many ways and created a “new hope for peace.”
Spicer refused to detail what Trump knew about communications between his son-in-law Jared Kushner and the Russians prior to the election: “Kushner’s attorney said that he would participate with the investigation and we all need to wait. I won’t get into it. Your questions are based on all kinds of assumptions and I’m not going to confirm assumptions that are still being checked.”
Spicer also responded to the growing tensions with Germany: “I think the relationship that the President has had with Merkel he would describe as fairly unbelievable. They get along very well. He has a lot of respect for her. He views not just Germany, but the rest of Europe as an important American ally.”
