Watch: Footage from London
Today (Sunday), a dramatic picture of one of the terrorists from the London terror attack lying on the ground was released. Six people were murdered and 48 more were injured and evacuated by emergency services to hospitals. Several British politicians have already announced that they will be suspending their campaign – just four days before the general election – for a day.
The terrorists ran over pedestrians walking on the London Bridge. They then got out of the van while armed with knives and stabbed bystanders. Police forces managed to eliminate the terrorists who were wearing what appeared to be explosive belts but turned out to be fake.
"The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests but these were later established to be hoaxes," Britain's head of counter-terrorism Mark Rowley said.
"Sadly, six people have died in addition to the three attackers shot by police," Rowley added. "The suspects had been confronted and shot by police within eight minutes of the first call."
British Prime Minister Theresa May was briefed by security officials regarding the terror attack. She announced that she will hold a special cabinet meeting that will include ministers and intelligence chiefs.
US President Donald Trump faced strong criticism on Sunday for arguing on Twitter in favor of his controversial travel ban hours after twin terror attacks in London. The tweet prompted criticism from commentators and political observers who accused Trump of opportunism at London’s expense.
We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 3, 2017
A few minutes later, Trump tweeted a message of support for Londoners: "Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the U. K., we will be there - WE ARE WITH YOU. GOD BLESS!"
