Germany: Second ax attack reported within 24 hours

An 80-year-old man was critically injured by an ax-wielding man in Dusseldorf, Germany. Yesterday evening, at least five people were injured in an ax attack in the same city.

This afternoon (Friday), an 80-year-old man was attacked by an ax-wielding man in a parking lot in Dusseldorf, Germany. The elderly victim was critically injured. The attacker fled the scene and police are currently searching for him.

A few hours earlier, several people were injured in a separate ax attack in the same city. This attack occurred at the main train station in Dusseldorf. According to local news reports, the suspect was arrested and identified as a 36-year-old who lives in Wuppertal. The suspect was described as being from the former Yugoslavia and the local police department said that he appears to have mental health problems. According to German officials, there is no reason to suspect that these two incidents were related.

In Basel, Switzerland, two people were murdered and another was critically injured Thursday night in a shooting at a café. While the local police department announced this morning that terrorism has been ruled out as a possible motive, no other details about the suspected motive have been released. The two shooters fled the scene and are still at large.
