It has been over 48 hours since the Argentinian navy last made contact with one of its submarines, which has 44 crew members on board. The navy has launched a widespread search mission to locate the submarine that was last seen in southern Argentina.

According to Naval Spokesperson Enrique Balbi, the navy and air force are conducting extensive searches in the area where the submarine was last seen. “There is no serious indication that the submarine was damaged,” Balbi stated. “Communication just stopped.”  He added that it is likely that the submarine continued its journey.

The submarine was made in Germany in 1985 and arrived in Argentina a year later. The navy emphasized that it took proper care and performed all repairs and changes on time.
