At least 1 killed, 20 injured in Times Square after car plows into pedestrians

A car has slammed into several pedestrians on a sidewalk in Times Square. At least one person was killed and 20 were injured. A New York Police Department source told CBS that this does not seem to be terrorism-related.

Media outlets across the US are reporting that a vehicular incident occurred on a sidewalk in New York City’s Times Square. According to the various reports, at least one person was killed and 20 were injured. CBS News reported that an NYPD source said that the incident does not appear to be terrorism-related. Police have closed off the area.

Eye-witnesses said that the car was traveling against traffic. It appears that the driver drove onto the sidewalk and continued driving on it, hitting the pedestrians. The driver was seen being taken away from the scene in a police car. Several of the victims were found lying on the sidewalk.

An eye-witness told Reuters that he saw a victim covered by a bloodstained blanket and at least seven people being taken away on stretchers.
