UN: At least 240 migrants drowned when 2 ships capsized

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated that at least 240 migrants drowned when two ships capsized off the coast of Libya. The reports were confirmed by two survivors.

At least 240 migrants drowned when two ships capsized off the coast of Libya, according to the UN today (Thursday).

Carlotta Sami, a UNHCR spokeswoman, said that the reports were verified by two survivors who were brought to the Italian island of Lampedusa.

Leonard Doyle, the International Organization for Migration Spokesperson, said that 4,200 people have drowned in the Mediterranean since the beginning of 2016.
