The woman claimed that she found the baby koala outside on the previous night.
A baby koala was discovered in the bag of a woman who was arrested by police officers in Brisbane, Australia.
The police officers who were arresting the woman asked her if she had anything to declare. The woman then gave them her bag and told them that there is a baby koala inside. The police officers were stunned by what she said and when they opened the bag, they saw that there was actually a baby koala inside.
The woman told the officers that she found the koala outside at night. She said that he appeared to be in trouble. “Not quite believing their ears, the officers cautiously unzipped the bag and found this gorgeous [koala]," the statement released by the Queensland Police Service read.
The veterinarians who examined the koala said that he is six months old and weighs 6.5 kilograms (approximately 14.3 pounds).
Australia's Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) stated that the koala was dehydrated but is recovering. “He's been on fluids but is doing well," said RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty. It was also announced that the koala has been given a new name: Alfred.
