However, that did not prevent Americans from going to their local malls and enjoying the low prices offered by fashion, furniture, toy and electronics stores.
The weekend that normally breaks sales records has seen large-scale sales, with initial data indicating that a majority of purchases were made online, where shoppers have spent up until now more than $1.5 billion.
Due to online shopping’s increased popularity, stores and shopping centers did not have to deal with extremely long lines of shoppers outside of their doors, which they normally see each year. However, Black Friday is still the most popular shopping event in the US, during which millions of people enjoy the low discount prices offered by fashion, furniture, toy and electronics companies.
Black Friday symbolizes the beginning of the holiday shopping season in the US. The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is when the retail world reaches its peak sales, bringing in more than 40% of the industry’s annual earnings.
