A storm erupted over the weekend in the US during a fundraising event after Clinton repeated a statement she made during a recent interview with Israel’s Channel 2 News. At the fundraiser, Clinton said that half of Donald Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables” and that they are racist and homophobic. Following the storm, Clinton issued an official apology.

“I was ‘grossly generalistic’ and that’s never a good idea,” said Clinton. “I regret saying ‘half.’ That was wrong.”

“There are what I call the deplorables,” said Clinton in the interview with Channel 2’s Yonit Levy, which was broadcasted last Thursday. “The racists and the, you know, the haters, and the people who are drawn because they think somehow he’s going to restore an America that no longer exists.”

Trump responded to his Democratic rival’s allegations by saying that she hurt the feelings of millions of Americans. “Wow, Hillary Clinton was SO INSULTING to my supporters,” wrote Trump on his Twitter account. “Millions of amazing, hard-working people. I think it will cost her at the polls!”
