Huma Abedin, the wife of former congressman Anthony Weiner, announced that the couple is splitting after her husband was caught once again sending sexually explicit messages to another woman. “After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband,” said Abedin in a statement yesterday (Monday). “During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy.” The couple has a 5-year-old son.

Abedin is the vice chairwoman of Clinton’s presidential campaign and considered one of Democratic Candidate’s top aides.

Abedin discovered the new photos only after Weiner was questioned about them by the New York Post. In some of the sexually suggestive pictures, the couple’s young son is seen in the background sleeping in a bed. Weiner informed his wife about the scandal and admitted that he sent the pictures. Shortly thereafter, Abedin announced her decision. Republican Candidate Donald Trump quickly commented on the scandal. “Huma is making a very wise decision,” he said in a statement. “I know Anthony Weiner well and she will be far better off without him.”

The couple married in 2010 and in 2011, Weiner was caught for the first time sending sexually suggestive pictures to at least 6 women via Twitter. Weiner was forced to resign from Congress but Abedin stood by his side and publicly supported him while he admitted that he has a sex addiction.
