After Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan criticized German Chancellor Angela Merkel for expressing support for Holland, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus announced that Ankara will ban the Dutch ambassador from entering the country. In addition, Turkey stated that it has halted all diplomatic discussions with the Netherlands.

Kurtulmus added that because Europe is not upholding its commitments regarding the refugee deal, Ankara is no longer obliged to helping Europe with its refugee problem. According to the deal, Turkey was supposed to take in refugees from Syria.
