Explosion of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket caused by large helium system breachAfter three weeks of reviews and investigations, the official investigation team released its findings regarding the explosion of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, which ruined the Israeli Amos-6 satellite. According to the official statement that was issued, there was a “large breach” in the rocket’s second stage helium system.
Three weeks ago, the Amos-6 satellite blew up when SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket exploded as it was being prepared for its upcoming launch in Florida. After almost a month of extensive reviews, the official Accident Investigation Team (AIT) announced that it was able to locate the source of the problem that caused the Falcon 9 rocket to explode. According to the announcement, there was a “large breach” in the rocket’s second stage helium system.
“At this stage of the investigation, preliminary review of the data and debris suggests that a large breach in the cryogenic helium system of the second stage liquid oxygen tank took place,” claimed SpaceX in its official statement. Despite these findings, the investigation team clarified that the reason behind the breach is still a mystery.
The company stated that it continues to investigate the incident. The AIT is composed of representatives from SpaceX, NASA, the U.S. Air Force and the Federal Aviation Administration.
