FBI Director James Comey discovered that he was fired from TVFollowing reports of FBI Director James Comey’s dismissal, US news outlets claim that Comey discovered that he was fired from TV and thought that it was a prank. Meanwhile, both Republicans and Democrats criticize the decision.
According to The New York Times, FBI Director James Comey discovered that he was fired from television reports while meeting with the bureau’s employees in Los Angeles.
According to the report, Comey laughed, thinking that it was a funny prank. Shortly after, however, US President Donald Trump’s letter of his dismissal reached FBI Headquarters in Washington.
In the letter, Trump wrote: “While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau.”
The sudden dismissal was met with speculations and criticism as Comey was leading a probe into the allegations of possible links between Trump's election headquarters and the Russian government. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer claimed that the move could cause the public to think that it is a cover-up of the investigation and called for a special prosecutor to investigate the case.

Republican member of the US House of Representatives Justin Amash also tweeted support for an independent investigating committee. “I’ve spent the last several hours trying to find an acceptable rationale for the timing of Comey’s firing,” Republican Senator Jeff Flake said on Twitter. “I just can’t do it.”
