FBI raided Paul Manafort's home last month as part of Russia probe

According to the Washington Post, FBI agents reportedly raided US President Donald Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort’s home two weeks ago as part of its investigation into Russia’s involvement in 2016 presidential election. Federal agents seized documents and other materials during the raid on his house, all of which has been confirmed by Manafort's spokesman.

The search warrant used by agents working with special prosecutor Robert Mueller was extensive, and was executed despite the fact that the day beforehand, Manafort had voluntarily met with Senate Intelligence Committee staff on the subject and handed over various documents, which were the same as those seized by the FBI. The search warrant indicated that investigators had persuaded a federal judge that Manafort could not be trusted to turn over all relevant subpoenaed documents.

It is believed that the search may have been conducted in order to send Manafort a message that he will not receive special treatment under Mueller’s investigation. In recent days, the probe team has increased its pressure on Manafort and began examining a wide range of details from Manafort’s professional and private life, on which Mueller's spokesman declined to comment.

Manafort's close associates fear that Mueller is working to build another case against him, unrelated to the presidential campaign that would then be used to force him to reveal information about Trump, in return for a softer sentence.
