Democratic Member of the US House of Representatives Brad Sherman filed the first article of impeachment against President Donald Trump due to attempts to disrupt the federal investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
According to Sherman, the firing of former FBI Director James Comey was an example of the such sabotage. “Trump has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as President,” Mr Sherman wrote. “Such conduct warrants impeachment and trial and removal from office.”

In order for the procedure to be completed, the article must first pass by a majority in the House of Representatives, which has a Republican majority and then by a two-thirds majority in the Senate, which also has more Republicans than Democrats.
Last month, Comey testified before the Congress and claimed that Trump asked him, during a private meeting, to stop investigating former National Security Adviser Michael T. Flynn.
This week, Russia has been dominating the headlines after the president’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr. shared an email exchange on Twitter in which the Russians offered him ‘incriminating information’ on Hillary Clinton during his father’s election campaign.
