US President Donald Trump’s former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn is prepared to testify that Trump instructed him to contact senior Russian officials, ABC News reported on Friday, citing a source. ABC News added that Flynn has promised “full cooperation” in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
Earlier today, it was reported that Flynn has pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements to the FBI. Meanwhile, the White House said on Friday that Flynn’s guilty plea cannot harm Trump or any other White House official.
The indictment states that Flynn lied to FBI investigators when he said that he had not asked then-Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak “to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the United States had imposed against Russia that same day” in December 2016. In addition, Flynn lied when he told the FBI that “he did not recall the Russian Ambassador subsequently telling him that Russia had chosen to moderate its response to those sanctions as a result of his request.”
He also told the investigators that he “did not ask the Russian Ambassador to delay the vote on or defeat a pending United Nations Security Council resolution.” According to the FBI, this claim was another lie.
Flynn resigned from Trump’s administration in February after it was discovered that he had misled US Vice President Mike Pence regarding his meetings and communications with Kislyak.
