French Prime Minister Manuel Valls spoke cautiously today (Thursday) about the European Union’s future, claiming that Europe is in danger of breaking apart. “Europe is at risk of breaking apart and will most likely fail,” said Valls in Berlin.

“The European project now needs a new foundation and France and Germany need to show their strength,” continued Valls. According to Valls, far right-wing party leader Marine Le Pen will most likely win the 2017 French presidential election.

Valls’ statements come a few days after German Chancellor Angela Merkel hinted that she intends to review the conditions of the European Union’s open borders policy.
