Former Republican president George H. W. Bush said that he is planning to vote for the Democratic presidential candidate in November, according to Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, the eldest daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy.

Townsend, who was the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland from 1995 to 2003, uploaded to her Facebook page a picture with the former president captioned: “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!” Townsend confirmed that this was what the former president told her during a phone conversation with a representative from the Politico website.

Since his son Jeb Bush dropped out of the race, the former president avoided discussing the upcoming election, which has been interpreted as proof of his serious distaste for Republican candidate Donald Trump. A spokesman for Bush did not confirm nor deny the report: “He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim.” The spokesman also stressed that Bush is a private citizen and that his vote is private matter.
