Haley: UNIFIL commander has an “embarrassing lack of understanding” about Hezbollah capabilitiesNikki Haley harshly condemned UNIFIL for failing to control Hezbollah munition in southern Lebanon and accused them of being “blind.” She also expressed concern over Iran’s commitment to the nuclear deal.
US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley harshly criticized the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) during a press conference on Friday and accused its commander, Irish Maj. Gen. Michael Beary, of being powerless in preventing the Iranian munition of Hezbollah forces near the Israel-Lebanon border.
"General Beary says there are no Hezbollah weapons," said Haley. "That’s an embarrassing lack of understanding on what’s going on around him.”
Haley added with regard to the terrorist group: "Hezbollah openly brags about their weapons, they parade them before TV cameras." She also said that even UN reports confirm the matter. "For the UNIFIL commander to deny that it has any proof shows that we need to have changes in UNIFIL.”
Later during the press conference, Haley expressed her concern over the fact that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was not permitted to enter an Iranian military base and asked the agency to employ all the tools in its arsenal so as to ensure Tehran continues to adhere to the agreed conditions of the nuclear agreement.
“I have good confidence in the IAEA,” said Haley. “But they are dealing with a country that has a clear history of lying and pursuing covert nuclear programs.”
